The coast of Malaga is 184 kilometres long from the westernmost point (Manilva) to the easternmost destination (Nerja), covering 14 coastal towns with first-class beaches.
If in recent posts we told you which are the 5 best beaches in eastern Málaga or which are the best beaches in Málaga Capital, in this text we would like to tell you which are in our opinion (which coincides largely with that of other specialized blogs) which beaches of the Costa del Sol you should know for the quality of its waters, its services or its renowned gastronomy.
Aunque hay playas tan hermosas como la de Maro, Nerja o Torre del Mar, en este post os daremos a conocer playas que son joyas marítimas dentro de la cada vez más visitada Costa del Sol.
These are the best beaches on the Costa del Sol.
El Faro Beach (Marbella)
Marbella’s fame -both nationally and internationally- is undeniable. The beauty of its streets and some of the most exclusive areas of the country have made this small Andalusian town a focal point for those seeking a sun and beach holiday. Marbella combines sunshine with the possibility of luxury experiences.
Its fame is also well maintained by the city town hall, as Marbella has three beaches that were awarded blue flags in 2019 (Casablanca, San Pedro de Alcántara and El Faro). The beach of El Faro is located in the center of the city and is much visited by tourists because it is surrounded by services and very close to the Sport Port.
Carvajal Beach (Fuengirola)
Fuengirola is one of those classic beach destinations for much of Spain. A city that has managed to adapt over the years to the national – but especially British – tourism that has come to its coasts.
Although its main beach was a little more neglected during the past year, at the end of the promenade we find Carvajal beach. This beach is a very good option to go in family, since the entrance to its waters can last meters until it covers. It also has a large number of restaurants and bars where we can relax looking at the sea while trying the rich gastronomy of Malaga.
Carihuela Beach (Torremolinos)
Torremolinos has a beautiful main beach with an extensive length of 2,100 meters and 40 meters wide that ends in Puerto Marina in Benalmadena. All this stretch of coast (as well as the neighbouring Benalmádena), has dozens of restaurants and beach bars where you can taste dishes of the Malacitana gastronomy such as the famous espetos (grill of sardines) and the pescaito frito (fried fish).
In addition, Carihuela Beach is on the list of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol because of its palm trees and a natural grass area where we can stop to take the shade and have a picnic with friends.
Bil Bil Beach (Benalmádena)
Nice white sand beach located in the central area of the city, very close to the Arroyo de la Miel and attractions such as the Tivoli World or the beautiful Paloma Park. This beach is the continuation of the Puerto Marina and throughout its promenade you will find restaurants that will delight all tourists.
The name comes from the Castle of Bil Bil, which can be seen in the upper part of the promenade and is very distinguishable due to its red colour. The building, which is currently a cultural centre, dates from 1927 and has an Arab architecture with fountains outside.
Torreblanca Beach (Fuengirola)
Among the best beaches of the Costa del Sol we can also find the beach of Torreblanca or Los Olimpos beach, very close to the border with Benalmádena. This beach is 1,200 meters long and about 20 meters wide. With dark sand and less tourist attention, this beach is accessible from the promenade.
It is a calm water beach with a horseshoe shaped area. Like the rest of the beaches – as it could not be otherwise on the Costa del Sol – it has a large number of chiringuitos and bars where we can relax while watching the calm waves breaking on the rocks.
El Faro Beach (Mijas)
We follow our southern direction on the Costa del Sol to reach El Faro Beach in Mijas, further away from the city and not so saturated by sun and beach tourism.
It’s a small beach located in La Cala and ideal for people who want to escape the mass of umbrellas and noise. There are areas with rocks, so it never hurts to buy rubber shoes to avoid any small discomfort. Despite being a little further away, we have all kinds of services nearby, so there will be no problem if we want to buy food or drink in the area.
La Rada Beach (Estepona)
In the southernmost part of the Costa del Sol we find the Rada Beach, awarded last year with the blue flag thanks to its extensive beach of 3,000 meters that has fine golden sand, next to waters of first quality.
On its also extensive promenade there are bars, restaurants and shops of all kinds, as the beach of La Rada is also close to the central area of Estepona. Without a doubt, one of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol to enjoy with friends or the whole family.
Artola nudist beach – Cabopino (Marbella)
We return to Marbella to tell you about this beautiful beach of fine sand that is also a good meeting point for lovers of beach nudism.
This small beach joins the naturist beach of Almayate, in Velez-Malaga, in terms of options to practice nudism. As a general rule, beaches like Artola have very nice businesses and professionals, destined to receive this type of clientele. Besides, what better place to be in a beautiful spot like Artola Dunes!
The best beaches on the Costa del Sol are available to anyone who is willing to make the journey that separates this beautiful corner of Andalusia. Tell us what other beaches have conquered you!
